Surface Mount Technology (SMT) has widely replaced Through Hole Technology (THT), allowing smaller assembly sizes due to, thinner boards, finer pitches and smaller size components, also setting quality and product life are to a higher standard.

Although production habits and rules have changed, providing higher quality and productivity, Pin Through Hole (PTH) component use is still necessary in specific applications because of a higher resistance to mechanical stress and vibration. This is especially the case in the Automotive, Avionics and Medical industries, where the environment for the final product is very stressful due to vibration and, temperature change, combined with demands for high integrity and long product life time, longer than 10 years. such applications as these, process evolution to SMT is particularly slow and must be submitted to long qualification processes. The THT process is therefore still recognized as a must have, to ensure quality, reliability and long life products.

Allowing 100% defect detection and ergonomic review of the defect for the operator. Our comprehensive Vision Software Suite combined with our high quality telecentric lens offers a high defect coverage including: pin presence, fillet coverage, wetting and partial lack of solder, total lack of solder, bridges, bent pins and micro solder-balls down to 100µm. Our illumination system, i-LITE, combines axial and circular lighting, making the inspection of PTH compliant with the IPC-610 standard.
