Balver Zinn, the specialist for micro-alloyed solders, has introduced the i-SAC series of optimized alloyed SnAg solders. The addition of cobalt (Co) improves the wettability and fow rate of silver-containing solders. With the i-SAC105 (silver composition on request between 0.5 and 1.5%) we have combined the benefts of silver-free solders with the properties of silver-containing solders
such as SnAg3.0Cu0.5! Reasonably priced, with shiny solder joints and a fne grain microstructure – and yet they contain silver! Cobalt (Co) is responsible, among others, for a fner and a more homogeneous microstructure in compari-son to standard SnAg solders.

To prevent dross formation and improve the fow rate of the solder, they also contain a small amount of germanium (Ge). Balver Zinn Solder i-SAC105 is a member of an entire family of micro-alloyed SnAg solders. The i-SAC family of alloys from Balver Zinn is rounded off by a range of other lead-free solder alloys and products, such as i-SAC205; i-SAC305; i-SAC387!

To the best of our knowledge, Balver Zinn Solder i-SAC105 contains no hazardous substances beyond the limits prescribed by EU Directive 2002/95/EG (“RoHS”, European Restriction of Hazardous Substances).

General Process Information

  • A copper content above 0.85 % causes significantly increased amounts of solder defects (e.g. bridging). Balver Zinn conducts regular solder bath analyses to determine the customer-specific bath top-up schedule and avoid problems caused by a too high level of impurities.
  • Above 0.9 % copper content there is a risk of intermetallic particle dissipation. Due to the low density of lead-free alloys the intermetallic compounds sink to the bottom of the solder bath.
  • Like all other silver-containing solders, i-SAC105 also affects pots and pumps. For this reason, coated soldering pots, pump impellers, undulations and everything else coming into contact with the solder must adhere to strict regulations!
  • To reduce dross in the solder wave, we recommend using nitrogen hoods.
